Don’t do anything when you can do nothing.

There is a sentence that has stayed with me for many years.

And the more I perform, the more sense it makes.

It goes like this:

Don’t do anything when you can do nothing.

When we first start in magic, we tend to believe that amazement comes from doing more.

More movements.

More gestures.

More demonstrations.

More words.

But with time, you discover something different.

True naturalness appears when you remove everything that isn’t necessary.

Every unnecessary movement is another opportunity for the audience to ask themselves a question.

Every extra explanation gives them more time to analyze.

Every meaningless gesture quietly draws attention to itself.

On the other hand, when everything seems to happen by itself…

magic feels completely different.

Some effects don’t need the magician to push them along.

You simply create the right moment…

and let the story unfold.

Curiously, those are often the effects people remember the longest.

Whenever I’m working on a routine, I always ask myself the same question:

Am I helping the effect… or am I getting in its way?

This week, something arrived in the shop that reminded me of exactly that.

A classic effect where the feeling doesn’t come from doing more…

but from letting it happen.

I’ll leave it here in case you’d like to take a look:

👉 [One of those effects that seem to happen all by themselves]

That’s all.

Just a small reflection that reminds me that, very often, the best move is simply trusting the effect itself.

Best wishes,
